CVS Pharmacy is on a mission to speed up the checkout process--especially when it comes to picking up those prescriptions.

Instead of moving forward with Apple Pay, the company has launched CVS Pay. It's a new mobile payment option that people can use within the CVS Pharmacy app, according to a news release from the company.

The company says users will be able to refill and manage their prescriptions, get notified when it's time for pickup and then simply give pharmacists a number or a barcode to scan in the app to complete the process.

The app reportedly stores multiple credit and debit cards, including those connected to a Health Savings Account.

CVS says verifications for prescriptions, payments and ExtraRewards will all happen within the app. This is especially helpful when you never keep cards in your wallet and your purse is usually stuffed full of old receipts. Who, me?

CVS Pay is rolling out now to certain stores in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania with nationwide roll-out expected later this year.

It's an effort to simplify, but as a Time article points out: between chip and pin technology, stores making their own mobile payment apps and services like Apple Pay, checkout is becoming a bit of a headache.
