Dearborn Police will check on your home while on Labor Day vacation

With Labor Day weekend approaching and families hitting the road, Dearborn Police have released tips to help protect your home from potential intruders. 

For families away from their home for the holiday, they can register for the Dearborn Police Vacation House Check Program

The program allows reserve officers to "periodically check the exterior of your home and property to ensure the property is secured."

Other tips include: 

  • Turn your porch light on and use other outdoor lights.

  • Keep all windows locked.

  • Keep all doors locked.

  • Use deadbolt locks on exterior doors.

  • Never leave valuables in plain sight.

  • Keep your bushes and lawn neatly trimmed.

  • Use light timers for interior lights while you are out.

  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.

  • Get to know your neighbors.

  • Look out for your neighbors.

  • Trust your instincts. If it seems suspicious, report it to police.
