It's demolition day for two homes in Fraser.
The buildings have to come down as part of the fix for the 15 Mile collapsed sewer line. The work to fix the broken sewer line under the road has been non-stop since it collapsed on Christmas Eve.
The break caused a sinkhole that left three homes condemned and today, two of those homes will be torn down.
The demolition will clear the way so crews can begin replacing the sewer interceptor that collapsed.
Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller says the demo work represents a major turning point in the recovery process at the site.
The work done up until this point, she says, was focused on the bypass system, getting the sewage flow around the damaged pipe.
Once the homes are torn down, they will turn their attention to replacing that damaged sewer interceptor.
Miller also shared her sympathies with those three families who lost their homes and possessions, calling them composed.
Demolition for each home is expected to take two days each.
Repair work on the failed interceptor is expected to be complete in September with full completion and repaving 15 Mile in November.
