SHIAWASSEE CO., Mich. (WXYZ) — An onlooker photographing the Pere Marquette 1225 steam locomotive passing through Carland, Michigan had a close call when he got too close to the tracks, Shiawassee County deputies said.
The 1225, which is one of two remaining Pere Marquette 2-8-4 locomotives, was traveling through Carland heading to the "North Pole." One man, who was standing a bit too close to the tracks as the holiday train moved through the town, was inches from being hit. Fortunately, it was only his coat that was ripped when it came in contact with the locomotive, according to the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office posted video of the close call on Dec. 5.
"Unfortunately, people don’t always use good judgement when watching or photographing her along the way," the Facebook post read.
The sheriff's office added that these trains, which are pulling coaches full of people during the holiday season, overhang the tracks by at least 3 feet in both directions.
