The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation after two men reportedly tried to steal a pit bull puppy on March 3.
Deputies say a man was walking his puppy around 8:30 a.m. near McCartney and Lakeview when another man approached got out of a car and demanded that he hand over the dog. A fight ensued and that's when a second man exited the vehicle armed with a knife.
Police reported that the victim grabbed the knife that caused a severe injury to his hand before managing to get away with his dog.
The owner of the puppy is now refusing to cooperate with authorities.
