A new coffee shop opens in Royal Oak, at a time other businesses are leaving. Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters on Main Street served their first cup Joe this morning.

“Felt the opportunity is really right with the things that are happening in Royal Oak right now,” said owner Nate Hamood. His family opened the first location almost 10 years ago in Rochester.

They have another location in downtown Detroit. But some businesses are closing their doors in Royal Oak.

For example, Andiamo partially blames their closure on lack of parking. But Nate says the cafe will rely on foot traffic and the restaurants that are NOT doing well are big named chains, unlike Dessert Oasis.

“Up and coming, younger businesses and more craft-focused companies.”

The cafe caters to the night owls since they’re open until midnight six days a week.

Plus, they’ll be offering entertainment many often.

“Late night, sit down, after dinner, after seeing a movie, come in and hang out, listen to some live music.”

They will offer baked goods made on-site. There are other cafes on Main Street like Starbucks, Bean & Leaf and Atomic Cafe.

Nate also says they pay close attention to the details of the coffee, from ethical sourcing of coffee beans down to the last drop

“We spend a lot of time dialing in how we roast it.”

Nate hopes you will stop by for a cup of joe.

“Check us out and see what we’re doing with our coffees. We’d love to be able to really give them that hospitality-focused, product-focused experience.”
