Every week through December our Detroit 2020 team is helping you find unique -Made in Michigan- gift ideas. This week we found something that began in a Michigan kitchen and is a lifestyle change for the entire family.

Our Michigan made segment this week features Dirty Girl Farm, an organic company, with a variety products that are safe for your entire family from head-to-toe.

“So, I started making things in my home as just a hobby kind of a thing and we were selling herbs, green house grown herbs,” Heather explains.

Heather Rosencrantz, needed a fresh start after a divorce in the early 1990's. So, she re-invented herself by making a DIY project turn into a thriving organic skin care business.

Dirty Girl Farm began in Heather’s hometown of Davison, Michigan, where she continues to create. Her daughter started developing rashes to over -the -counter lotions and shampoos. So, she used her education background in botany to create chemical free solutions for sensitive skin.

"We went to a farmer’s market, sold out of the skin care and I thought oh my gosh, this is a thing people want, she said.

Right away Heather started hitting all the craft fairs around the state until she landed a permanent spot in the Royal Oak Farmer’s Market and Dirty Girl Farm has been there for over 20 years now.

"It was a total fluke, I was the traveling gypsy with a truck full of weird products and someone at another market told me you should try this place, I think your crowd is down there.  First time I went, I sold out and i thought oh my gosh this is my place."

Linda Karibian stopped by to do a little Christmas shopping for her daughter who is living in Armenia.

" I like to support Michigan businesses. I’m sending her a bunch of products she loves for Christmas," said Karibian.

Dirty Girl Farm requests keep growing with her clients wants and needs so she expanded her line by adding household cleaning products.

She listened throughout the years and became friends with many of her customers and loves to see results.

"We hear things like you’ve solved a problem for me or my daughter’s acne cleared right up and we didn't’ have to go to this expensive skin care routine," Heather explains.

Heather hopes her products create a life style change for her client and her dream is to see the Dirty Girl farm product line in everyone’s cupboard.

"I have lotions for dry skin, lip balm, shampoo, I have culinary herbs, medicinal herbs, so someone that likes to go home and make tea, we have different selections for those types of things.  We have spices so you can blend your own, we can blend it for you." she adds.

You can head to the store inside the Royal Oak Farmer’s Market which is open every Saturday and Sunday.
