DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit City Council on Tuesday approved a plan that would cut parking ticket fines for city of Detroit residents. The plan was approved by a 7-2 vote.

Under the new plan, which goes into effect on Nov. 1, residents who take care of a parking ticket and no-parking zone violation within five business days will get a 50 percent discount. That will cut the cost from $45 to $22.50.

Driver's must live in the city of Detroit and have their vehicles registered to addresses in the city. They also must have no more than one outstanding parking ticket.
