DETROIT (WXYZ) — A collision shop owner is facing fraud charges that could put him behind bars.

Federal authorities have charged Daniel Dabish, the owner of Livernois Collision, with one count of mail fraud.

Court documents outline a scheme in which Dabish would allegedly bill insurance companies on parts from old cars brought to him by paid off Detroit Police officers.

According to court documents, Dabish “would submit inflated and fraudulent claims for automobile repairs purportedly performed at the shop to automotive insurance companies.”

A lawyer for Dabish tells 7 Action News these are re-filed charges from last month. Last month there was a charge of wire fraud and mail fraud. Now, Dabish is just facing mail fraud.

Dabish is due in court on Thursday were it is possible he could take a plea deal.

Detroit police tell 7 Action News they have no comment on today’s latest developments. In 2017, when allegations against police were first uncovered, they said they would be conducting an internal review.
