A 3-month-old puppy is doing much better after being rescued by Detroit firefighters. Murdoch was found on the street. Firefighters from Engine 32 took the puppy back to their station on E. Jefferson and took care of him until a volunteer with the nonprofit Home Furever picked him up.

"He looked bad. He looked really, really bad. He was not doing good, really lethargic," says Shannon Moran, a firefighter who helped rescue the puppy.

Murdoch suffered a fractured tibia and fibula. He also has a noncontagious mite because his immune system is not fully functional. Doctors say with treatment, time and a loving home, Murdoch will be fine.

"You’re lucky if you get him. He’s the sweetest little puppy you can imagine and he’s going to be very grateful for saving his life,” says Mandi Deveja, volunteer with Home Furever.
