DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Detroit Historical Museum in Midtown will require the public to pay entry beginning in November. The Detroit Historical Society announced the updated paid admission policy Monday.

The museum has had free general admission since 2012, but required payment for entry before then. The change in admission policy comes with the introduction of a "revised membership structure," the Detroit Historical Society wrote in a news release.

Starting Nov. 1, admission for adults will be $10, $8 for seniors, students, active military and first responders (with a valid ID), $6 for children and $35 for a household of up to six adults and children with the same address.

Children under age 6 and Detroit Historical Society member will continue to receive free admission.

The historical society has added a new Detroit membership option at no cost to residents of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. You can view the details of the new membership program here.

The historical society adds that the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle will continue to offer free admission with a suggested donation of $5.
