The Detroit Pistons are coming off a fresh win Thursday night against Cleveland and guard Ish Smith spent the morning celebrating with a group of 3rd-5th graders.

He made a special appearance at Coleman A. Young Elementary School, that the children will not soon forget.

The Pistons starter appropriately read a book called "Ish, then spoke to the kids about continuing to read

"The sport comes and goes, but at the end of the day, your knowledge and being smart and knowing things and wanting to know things is very, very important."

This is not the first time a Pistons star has graced the school. In 2013 the school won a reading room makeover from the basketball team.

"It was in need of a renovation, “ said school Principal Melissa Scott.

She says the team continues to give back to these children year after year.

"A lot of these kids are below the poverty level, and they think that the buck stops here, at the end of these walls, at the end of this block. Seeing things like this and meeting folks like Ish and Vic and all the other people that care about them gives them a sign of hope."

She says celebrity visitors like Smith teach them to dream big and go further.

"When they hear it from me I'm just a principal, but when they hear it from other people and especially celebrities, it rings... it rings really loud for them."

"They're our future,” said Smith.

The Detroit Pistons and Farm Bureau Insurance are taking applications right now for any school or any organization to apply for their very own reading room makeover. Click here for the link.
