DETROIT (AP) — Detroit's police chief says a member of the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners who was arrested at a raucous meeting after being warned to stop interrupting the proceedings won't face charges.

The Detroit News reports police Chief James Craig said Tuesday he decided to drop the matter "after consulting several people, including board members." Craig called the arrest "legal."

Shortly after last Thursday's meeting started, Lisa Carter was sworn in as the board's chairwoman and Commissioner Willie Burton asked what she would do differently than the past chairman. Carter told Burton multiple times he was "out of order," and officers handcuffed him.

The newspaper posted video of the arrest . Burton said his arrest for disorderly conduct was a "disservice" to the public. His spokesman Sam Riddle says Detroiters were "outraged."
