Civilian hits Detroit police cruiser after officer allegedly runs red light

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit police officer allegedly ran a red light and was hit by a civilian vehicle at the intersection of West Grand Boulevard and Rosa Parks Sunday.

According to a preliminary investigation, the officers were on a police run, traveling westbound on West Grand Boulevard around 3:25 p.m.. When approaching Rosa Parks Boulevard, the driving officer allegedly disregarded the red light and was struck on the driver's side rear.

The person driving the civilian vehicle is a described as a 24-year-old woman in a black Chevrolet Equinox. The driver of the Chevy complained of pain and was taken to a hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

The responding officer reported no injuries. A preliminary investigation does not state if the officers had activated their sirens.

This investigation is ongoing.
