Detroit police investigate 2 non-fatal shootings, make arrest in armed robbery

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police make one arrest and continue to investigate two non-fatal shootings that happened in the city Wednesday.

Non-fatal shooting on 8500 block of Mark Twain

On Jan. 22 around 8:30 p.m. in the 8500 block of Mark Twain, a 21-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the body. Police say witnesses heard gunshots in the area, looked outside and saw the victim lying on the ground in front of the house.

Medic responded and took the victim to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Armed Robbery on 1100 block of W. Warren

On Jan. 22 around 7:30 p.m., a 36-year old man entered a local business in the 1100 block of W. Warren.

Once inside, he allegedly approached the counter, took out a weapon and demanded merchandise from the cashier, police say. The cashier complied, giving the suspect more than 30 iPhones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

After taking the items, the suspect left the location through a rear door and ran off. As officers from the 3rd Precinct were arriving, they saw the suspect running and chased him on foot.

Police say the suspect was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody. Officers recovered the stolen property, and the suspect was taken to the Detroit Detention Center for processing.

Non-fatal shooting in area of Marlow and Puritan

On Jan. 22, an 18-year old female victim walked into the 9th Precinct and told officers she had been shot, according to police.

Police say the incident allegedly happened on January 20, 2020 around 3 p.m. in the area of Marlow and Puritan.

The victim reported she was sitting on a friend’s vehicle when she heard gunshots and realized she was shot. She was privately taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect is unknown at this time as the investigation continues.
