Detroit police say they are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy on the city's east side Thursday morning.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified the child Jamere Arnold.

Police say EMS were called to a home in the 1900 block of Conley around 1:53 a.m. on a report of an unresponsive child.

When they arrived, they reportedly found a child under cardiac arrest and took him to a Children's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say they were called after the child's grandmother told medical personnel that the child may have ingested a concoction containing alcohol.

The autopsy is complete but the cause of death has not been determined because toxicology results are not in.
Antonio Bonfiglio, MD is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at St John Macomb-Oakland Hospital.

The Doctor tells 7 Investigator Jim Kiertzner that alcohol can be dangerous when consumed by children.

"It would be a very low threshold. Alcohol’s effects are based on size and body weight. A typical 8-year-old would be of the size and weight that it wouldn’t take much alcohol, straight alcohol and have various serious medical side effects.
Including fatal? Potentially, at a certain concentration, absolutely."
