DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Police Department and the city refuse to comment tonight on a racially charged lawsuit filed by a demoted cop.

It's related to a viral video of two officers who were eventually fired over comments they made on Snapchat about an African-American woman they stopped in January.

Capt. Gary Sroka claims he was unfairly demoted to lieutenant after the incident in the 6th precinct.

The move followed an internal investigation that raised issues about racial insensitivity.

Sroka's lawsuit alleges he and another captain were targeted for demotion because they are white.
