DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police say the parents of a young girl who was found wandering late Thursday night showed up at the police precinct just after 6 a.m. on Friday.

Police received a call around 10:30 p.m. from a Good Samaritan who found a girl wandering in the 15000 block of Appleton. That's near Grand River and Telegraph on the city's west side.

When they found the girl, they canvassed the area for someone who knew her, but couldn't find anyone. The child was taken to the second precinct at 13530 Lesure.

In an interview with 7 Action News Reporter Ali Hoxie, the mother said she was staying with her daughter's father and family Thursday night and woke up to find the child missing Friday morning. She said her daughter is tall enough to reach the lock on the house and open the door.

We're told she was taken to Children's Hospital for an evaluation but she is OK. Her mother is on her way to pick her up.
