Detroit's Fitzgerald neighborhood is getting a boost, something 7 Action News first told you about months ago, and now those homes are finally hitting the market.

Dozens of prospective buyers came out Saturday for a first look at three homes that have been gut rehabbed in the neighborhood.

Built in the 1920s, each of the homes have been rebuilt at the core. There is new plumbing, heating and cooling, and all brand new appliances.

All of it the result of a public-private initiative between a developer and the city of Detroit to focus rebuilding not downtown but rather the vital neighborhoods surrounding it.

Northwest Detroit is currently defined by 131 vacant homes, and 242 vacant lots – something the initiative is seeking to change.

By 2020, over 100 properties will be built. On Saturday, Sept. 8, three of them hit the market for buyers.

The homes are only up for grabs for those making 80 percent or less of the area’s median income.
