DETROIT (WXYZ) — Workers in Detroit will participate in a nationwide strike for Black lives Monday afternoon.

The event is taking place in more than 25 cities and tens of thousands are expected to participate.

Fast food workers in the local Fight for 15 campaign will begin their strike at noon outside the McDonald's on Conant on the city's east side.

They are demanding the company prove it values Black lives by raising wages, guaranteeing paid sick leave and providing PPE and other workplace protections needed by frontline pandemic workers.

At 2 p.m. on Monday, workers at six Detroit nursing homes will walk off the job to demand that corporations and the government take action to confront the systemic racism in society and the economy that's holding back Black and brown communities.
