DETROIT (WXYZ) — This week the U.S. Marshals need your help finding a man they say is one of the worst child predators they've ever seen.

Summer's here and school's out soon. Protecting your kids from child predators it something every parent worries about. And summer vacation means new activities and new people in their lives.

All the more reason, police need to track down 37-year-old Juan Resendiz.

"This guy is a sexual predator," said Assistant Chief Deputy Aaron Garcia.

Resendiz has been charged in the most severe category of sex crimes in Detroit.

"A young child is involved. I have young children, and we need to make sure we’re protecting young children," Garcia said. "This case involves manipulation. He had access to this young child, manipulated her, brainwashed her. And this child has damage for the rest of his or her life."

What you should do to protect your kids this summer

  1. As school gets out for summer, the FBI says it’s important to really know who’s watching your kids, whether it’s a nanny, babysitter or tutor – check the sex offender registry and ask for several references.
  2. The same goes for summer camps. The FBI urges you to make sure the camp does background checks. Also, get to know the person in charge. Who will be the one responsible for who has access to your kids?
  3. And when you allow that, watch the behavior of those people. Look for someone who pays your child extra attention, and remind them to never accept gifts from anyone unless you’ve told them it's okay.
  4. Lastly, the FBI created a free app you can download right now called child ID. Here you can save your kids photos and key information in case the unthinkable happens and your child goes missing.

"As law enforcement, automatically, when a child is involved these cases are our number one priority," Garcia said.

Which is why Resendiz is this week's fugitive.

He's 5-feet 8-inches, 200 pounds and the U.S. Marshals say he could be anywhere in the metro Detroit area.

"Literally the worst of the worst occurred in this case, and we need to get this guy brought in before the court, so nobody else is effected by this person while he’s out there on the run," said Garcia.

As always, there’s a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of Juan Resendiz. You can call the Marshals at (313) 234-5656.
