The Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit (FAMD) is offering a $1,000 reward for information on the person who abused a mixed breed female dog.

Dearborn Police brought the stray dog to FAMD Tuesday.

According to Lincoln Park Veterinary Hospital Dr. Jeffrey Disik, the dog had more than 200 puncture wounds, "some fresh and some that probably occurred over the last few months." Dr. Disik believes the dog was used as bait in dog fighting.

"She also has bacterial infections in several areas. Thankfully, she is recovering nicely and will be returned to FAMD in the next day or two."

Workers say surgery and medical treatment is expensive for shelter animals. Those interested in helping with the dog's vet bills can click here

Anyone with information should contact the shelter at (313) 943-2697.
