Rainbow City Roller Rink, an inflatable wonderland-turned-roller skating rink, is coming to downtown Detroit, Library Street Collective announced.

Set inside 1001 Woodward Avenue overlooking Campus Martius, the rink, designed by artist due FriendsWithYou, will be in downtown Detroit from Nov. 30 to Jan. 27.

The project is supported by Bedrock and the Quicken Loans Community Fund.

Weightless sculptures will be suspended from the ceiling of the building, hanging overhead as skaters skate on the rink's striped floor.

Library Street Collective owner Anthony Curis looks forward to what the installation offers in terms of its interactivity.

“The art of FriendsWithYou spreads a purity and positivity very rarely experienced outside of childhood, but is created for people of all ages," he said. "Their work has the power to take you out of the reality of the day to day and just be in the moment. We’re very excited to present such a seamless connection between art and activation in downtown for the holidays.”

Exhibited in Toronto, Miami, and New York, Rainbow City was first commissioned by the Luminato Arts festival in Toronto, and subsequently shown in New York in the High Line park, as well as during Art Basel Miami in the Design District.

The roller rink will be open to the public Wednesday through Sundays, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Entrance to the rink is free and skates and lockers are available to visitors. Admittance is on a first-come-first-served basis.
