Detroit Police Chief James Craig provided an update on claims that an officer was caught on video striking a man with a baton at Meijer last week.

The chief says the department will not ask the prosecutor to pursue disorderly conduct or resistance charges against the citizen in the case.

According to Chief Craig, an investigation is still underway and the officer has been suspended from secondary employment at Meijer until the investigation is completed. The officer has not been suspended from the department and will be on administrative duty.

Craig has previously spoken on the incident, saying the officer was off duty, but said the officer did what he was trained to do at the academy.

The incident happened at the Meijer on Woodward near 8 Mile last on Sunday October 8. The off-duty officer confronted the man about stealing something inside when things escalated.

Craig says they didn't find any evidence the young man inside the store stole anything.
