WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Mikel Maty, 24, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 54-year-old Robin Anderson of Chesterfield Township.

Warren police say back on Nov. 5, 2018, Maty was seen drag racing on Mound Road with a white car. Police say when Maty got to Mound and 9 Mile he ran through a red light, while that other white car stopped. They say Maty slammed his Dodge Challenger right into Anderson's car.

She was hospitalized and taken off life support two weeks later.

On Wednesday, Maty faced a judge and was given a $75,000 bond. He's also been charged with reckless driving and drag racing. Investigators say Maty was not drunk, on drugs or on the phone. They say he was going 76 mph in a 50 mph zone.

"I think he saw it at last second (that) there was another car there," said Det. Todd Murray with Warren police. "He tried to stop just before impact, but he was going too fast."

Action News talked to Anderson's fiance, Thomas Hawkins. He says he and Anderson were planning on getting married later this year.

"She was a loving person. She'd help anybody," he said.

When asked about the suspect, Hawkins said, "You're 24 years old, you're old enough to know right from wrong. You got to think about the other people."
