Dearborn Heights first responders and a local towing service teamed up to rescue a driver after a gravel hauler accident on August 19.

The fire department says a man was driving along Van Born Road when he hit the double-bottom hauler. The hauler then tipped and landed on top of his vehicle, trapping him inside.

With the danger of the trailer's load shifting, crews had to carefully figure out how to extract the driver. First responders then called in J & M Towing to help.

The company used a specialized crane-style tow truck to stabilize the load and lift the rig, according to the fire department.

Miraculously, the driver was uninjured in the crash.

"We were extraordinarily fortunate with this one," said Fire Chief David Brogan in a news release. “This was an excellent example of what can be accomplished when our responders, coupled with our commercial emergency response partners are well trained, well coordinated, and know how to work together quickly and efficiently."
