Should the state be allowed to force a CEO on East Detroit Public Schools in Eastpointe?

A Macomb County judge has granted a restraining order to stop it from happening for now.

This comes after the State Reform Office announced it planned to appoint longtime educator and former Principal of the Year Gary Jensen to oversee Bellview and Pleasantview Elementary, Kelly Middle and East Detroit High schools. The reason? Academic Performance.

This week, the district sued. The district claims the appointment is about politics and that the state is not fairly coming to the conclusion the school isn't providing the best possible academic opportunities.

The district voiced concerns that the CEO would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and not improve education.

A judge will take a look at both sides before a hearing on July 18th.
