EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — In a letter to parents, Eastpointe Middle School said they will be returning to virtual classes for at least one week following several resignations from Eastpointe Middle School teachers.

"For this reason, we are moving to remote instruction so the remaining staff can adequately instruct our students," the letter said.

Ryan McLeod, Superintendent of Eastpointe Community Schools, told 7 Action News Monday that they are hoping the story of their teacher shortage gets the message out that they are hiring employees for a variety of positions.

"We do have jobs not just as teachers, but we also have clerical, so secretarial positions. We have bus driving positions. We've got all kinds of other opportunities for employment," said McLeod. "So if people are interested in coming and working in the schools and having a schedule that matches their kid's schedule, for an example, it's a really great way to come and be a part of the solution and help us out."

McLeod said they are also in discussion with the teachers' union on issues related to compensation, signing bonuses, and retention bonuses.

The school's principal plans for the students to return Monday, September 27.

In the meantime, the school is searching for candidates.

"We have a number of opportunities available including teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, food services, and more!"
