DETROIT (WXYZ) — November is National Adoption Month. Many youth in foster care who are eligible to be adopted are hoping their dream of joining a family comes true soon.

You might hear some Megan Thee Stallion or Cardi B coming from Elizabeth’s room. Elizabeth – who likes to go by “Lizzie” – is a 14-year-old in foster care who enjoys listening to music. She hopes her future family will like music and singing, too.

She’s also really into literature and being creative.

“I'm like a nerd. So, I just like watching like YouTube and reading books. I love doing Tik TOK dances,” she said.

She also likes to do what she calls “normal girl stuff.”

“Talk, do hair, nails, makeup,” said Lizzie. “I just liked that when like you have your makeup on and stuff, you can feel something else, like, you feel like a totally different person,” Lizzie said.

She’s a good student in school and has many interests.

“My favorite subject is health, and I'm going to move on to Spanish. I like my teachers. They're really nice teachers,” explained Lizzie.

When she gets out of high school, she has her eyes on a couple of different career paths.

“I want to be a licensed cosmetologist. So, when I get older I'm to go to a cosmetology trade school and then go to a regular college to be an OB GYN,” said Lizzie.

She really hopes to be adopted out of foster care soon.

“Well, my family would have, okay, they have to have a pet, like, a small dog,” said Lizzie. “like a teacup Chihuahua. And maybe one sibling, just one singular sibling so I won't feel lonely,” she said.

“But adoption means to me having a forever family who will care for you, who you can trust,” she added.

Right now, she’s staying positive.

“If you just put your heart to and pursue your dreams, just like you can just go above and beyond to be your own person,” said Lizzie.

Lizzie has been waiting to be adopted since August of 2018.
