(WXYZ) — The Environmental Protection Agency has invited a metro Detroit program to apply for a water infrastructure loan.

EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced on Tuesday it has invited 38 new projects in 18 states to apply for the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan.

Of the 38 projects, one is from Michigan. That is the Downriver Utility Wastewater Authority.

According to the EPA, they are invited to apply for a $13 million loan for the Biosolids Dryer Facility and other critical projects.

The authority said it will implement projects to increase the resiliency of its system, including the construction of in-direct heating biosolids dryers, rehab of the sewer and manholes, and repair and test the electrical system and equipment.

The authority system is the second largest wastewater system in Michigan and serves 13 Wayne County communities with a service population of 350,000.
