WESTLAND, Mich. (WXYZ) — If equality is important to you, if you believe equality and fairness are something that should not have to be debated. Well, today is Equal Pay Day.

And we went to the city and the suburbs to hear real stories about real action from women on a mission.

This Equal Pay Day, people are making their voices heard loud and clear, both on-air and on social media.

In a recent survey from Glassdoor.com 72 percent of women expressed they would not apply to work at a company where a pay gap exists.

We spent some time with business owners in Detroit and Westland. Both are working, to help wipe away unequal pay.

April Anderson of Detroit and Jen Evans of Westland are business owners. They are powerful women with powerful stories to tell.

One an expert baker at Good Cakes and Bakes.

The other an expert is resale boutiques at City Jen.

Women and men have taken to the streets, verbalizing this very injustice across the country around the world, with all their might.

According to Glassdoor.com, women now earn 79 cents to the one dollar a man makes. Well, those numbers are forcing the outrage to get louder.

If you believe you are unfairly facing unequal pay in the workplace and talking with your employee does not resolve your concerns, you can reach out to the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission.
