DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History features permanent and visiting exhibitions, more than 300 annual public events and education opportunities for all ages.

Charles H. Wright, a Detroit obstetrician and gynecologist, was the founder of the museum. He was inspired to create a repository for African-American history and culture after a trip to Denmark where he encountered a World War II memorial.

The 125,000 square-foot museum is located in Detroit’s thriving Midtown and is a cultural beacon for the city of Detroit.

The Wright Museum is open year-round and hosts special hours during Black History Month and on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
