DETROIT (WXYZ) — The family of Dion Martel Emery is demanding justice after the 44-year-old husband and father was killed in a hit and run.

"He was charismatic, he had a big smile," Emery's mother Patricia Rutland said. "He debates about anything and he loved Detroit sports."

His life was tragically taken a day before Christmas at the intersection of Schoolcraft and Greenfield Road.

"We saw the tape. They [the driver] was speeding and never looked back," Rutland said. "My son went up they say he died instantly and I'm praying he did."

Detroit police said Emery was struck and killed around 12:30 a.m. by a driver inside a blue sedan, possibly a Ford Fusion traveling South on Greenfield.

Investigators said the driver made a right on Plymouth and that's the last time the vehicle was seen.

A short surveillance clip of the sedan was released by police in a news release.
