A family is devastated after losing two of their loved ones because of a suspected distracted driver.

Gladys Johnson, 35, and her 5-year-old daughter Zakira were on US-23 near Monroe on Friday when a distracted driver rear-ended them, according to authorities.

Johnson and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.

Now, Gloria Johnson is mourning the loss of her daughter and granddaughter.

"They were my heart and my soul… they were always there for me… my grandbaby loved me to death… my daughter would be there. Anything I want she would be there for me," said Gloria Johnson.

Gladys Johnson, who lived in Redford, had a birthday at the end of the month.

Gladys' sister, Stephanie Johnson, hopes the driver is held accountable.

"My sister didn’t deserve this… he should’ve paid attention. I hope he gets what he deserves," Stephanie said.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the other driver was Michigan State University strength and conditioning coach Todd Moyer.

The Johnson Family is bonding together as they plan two funerals. They've started a GoFundMe page to help pay for the burials.
