The family of Amir Hekmati and U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee have met with Amir just a day after he was released from Iranian prison.

Kildee and Hekmati's family flew to Germany on Sunday where they finally met with the Flint native for the first time in more than four years.

According to the Free Amir Hekmati Facebook page, they met with Amir at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany around 12 p.m.

Amir met with his brother-in-law, Dr. Ramy Kurdi, his sisters, Sarah and Leila and Rep. Kildee. They spent about 15 minutes together, according to the Facebook page.

He was one of five Americans released from Iranian prison over the weekend during a prisoner swap.

Hekmati was detained in August 2011 on espionage charges. He said he went to Iran to visit family and spend time with his ailing grandmother.

He was convicted of spying and sentenced to death in 2012. After a higher court ordered a retrial, he was sentenced in 2014 to 10 years on a lesser charge.
