FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Saturday marks the end of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and all month a local business has been donating profits to help families affected by the disease.
For Thomas Bailey, owner of Chip Time Running, the battle is personal.
"Breast cancer kind of runs deep in my family. We've had several women in my family battle breast cancer. So it just always meant something to me," he explained.
So the Farmington Hills resident and marathoner is giving back to other families facing the same fight through his running-inspired clothing company. He says he launched Chip Time Running in May. The shirts and hoodies have the mantra 'run, sleep eat, repeat' written on them. Some have a pink theme and camouflage for breast cancer awareness.
"We've teamed up with Game on Cancer," Bailey said.
"100% of the donations (and tips) go to the families to help them pay for utilities, groceries, gas," he explained.
He's trying to help ease the burden for families already hit during what's been a tough year.
"We wanted the black camouflage print to show and exhibit the fighting spirit that some of the families and the people going through this battle," he said.
"We're actually nearing 500 (dollars). We'd love to pass that," Bailey explained.
