Father, 12-year-old daughter die in Shelby Township crash

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A father and his 12-year-old daughter, both of Macomb Township, have died in a vehicle crash involving a commercial truck, according to local police.

The deadly crash happened around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Van Dyke and 21 Mile Road. A Dodge Ram truck, being driven by the father, and a commercial vehicle, collided within the intersection, police say. The Dodge became fully engulfed in flames.

Inside the Dodge were a 45-year-old father and his two children, both age 12. One of the 12-year-olds, a girl, died along with the father in the crash. The other 12-year-old child is in the hospital with serious injuries.

After an initial investigation, it was found that the Dodge truck was traveling northbound on Van Dyke and turning left onto 21 Mile Road. The commercial truck was heading southbound on Van Dyke and traveling through the intersection at 12 Mile Road when the collision happened.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was uninjured, police say. He was interviewed on scene and released pending the outcome of the investigation.
