(WXYZ) — The father of a 7-year-old girl who was hit and killed on I-94 after a drunk-driving crash will spend at least 4.5 years in prison.
Wilburt Thomas was sentenced Thursday in Detroit and the judge said he could spend as much as 15 years in prison.
In July, Thomas' daughter Desandra was killed while trying to get help after her father crashed. Police say he was driivng a stolen van.
Earlier this month, Thomas pleaded guilty to manslaughter, child abuse and driving while intoxicated.
Desandra's mother told the court that everyone involved in the tragedy is hurting.
