A gathering involving the FBI is taking place to help educate about human trafficking in southwest Detroit and help deal with the problem.

The FBI's Detroit office and the Southwest Detroit Congress of Communities are hosting the event Wednesday evening called "Southwest Detroit Shatters Myths About Crime." Authorities say southwest Detroit, located near the U.S. border with Canada, has a significant problem with human trafficking.

Those participating also will address other crime affecting area residents, including attempted child abductions and online stalking.

The event will include information on what people can do to spot human trafficking and how to help report suspicious activity. Spanish and Arabic interpreters will be on hand
