DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit office of the FBI is investigating bomb threats at several locations around metro Detroit, as reports indicate that similar threats are being received across the country.

An FBI spokesperson issued the following statement to 7 Action News:

We are aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety.

According to a release from the City of Farmington Hills, their police department is investigating a number of threats which came in via email. Those threats demanded $20,000 in Bitcoin.

There are reports of threats in Buffalo, Orlando, Nashville and a number of other states. Our Denver sister station reports that Columbine High School also received a threat, but it is not clear if they are connected.

Locally, there are reports of threats in Ann Arbor and at the Guardian Building in Detroit, as well as the Wayne County Treasurer's Office. Detroit's 36th District Court is also being evacuated, but it is not yet clear if this is connected to the threats.

One of the Ann Arbor locations to receive a threat was WTKA radio. They say they received both an email and a phone call within minutes of each other. They called police, who searched the premises with a dog and then gave the all clear.

In a series of tweets, Michigan State Police say they have no indications of any explosions at this time.
