FERNDALE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Ferndale police said they have arrested a suspect in connection to a murder of a man inside a dollar store from 2010.

According to police, the murder happened on Nov. 26, 2010 at the Dollar Club Plus on Hilton Rd. in Ferndale.

A witness told police that the owner, Karim Khamarko, 64, of Southfield, was lying on the floor bleeding and having trouble breathing.

Police say they arrived in 2-3 minutes and found Khamarko had been shot several times. He was taken to the hospital but later died.

Detectives said they followed up on many tips and leads during the initial phase of the investigation, but none lead to the identification or arrest of the suspect.

The case has remained open since 010 and detectives have periodically re-examined the case in hopes of finding new information.

Earlier this year, police say evidence was found that lead to the ID and arrest of a suspect, a 48-year-old man from Romulus.

They say they have found more information and will be submitting the case with a warrant request for murder to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office on Friday morning.

They expect to release more information in the coming days.
