Too grief-stricken to talk on-camera, Nikki Salgot, the fiancé of slain Wayne State University Police Sgt. Collin Rose is breaking her silence in e-mail messages to 7 Action News, optimistic that new surveillance video from the night of Rose's murder could finally bring her family justice.

“I am hoping that someone might recognize the clothing the suspect was wearing or the way…he carries himself; his posture or movements,” Salgot wrote. “I am optimistic that this new video will produce that one small piece of information that is missing.”

Sgt. Rose was a five-year veteran of the Wayne State University Police Department, set to marry his fiancé this October. She said he was always proud to be an officer, even when police nationwide were under fire.

“Collin never considered leaving law enforcement an option. He absolutely loved what he did.  To him,” she said, “it was not a career, it was a calling…it was in his blood. Every day, he could come home with stories of all the good things he had done…and the people he had helped.”

It’s been more than three months since Rose’s brutal murder, and while police are still actively working leads, his fiancé fears finding the killer will only become harder.

“…the more time that passes, the more difficult things become. Memories fade, stories differ, evidence becomes harder to gather, and life goes on. That one small seemingly insignificant piece of information, fades as well.”

While the case remains unsolved, Salgot said the task force working day and night to solve Sgt. Rose's murder could not be more dedicated and driven.
