(WXYZ) — A local movie producer is taking a Detroit urban legend and putting it in the spotlight of a new movie.

Because of the shutdown, it will be available to stream.

7 Action News reporter Syma Chowdhry spoke exclusively to filmmaker Sam Logan Khaleghi about “Devil’s Night - Dawn of the Nain Rouge.”

The Nain Rouge is a legendary creature that intends to destroy the city, but participants at an annual spring festival shoo this evil dwarf away.

In the movie, the director/producer/actor tells us the Nain Rouge is somehow summoned to wreak havoc.

“Some mischief and mayhem starts to come about in the town it all stems back to a stolen item in a museum in Detroit that happens to be tied to the legend of the Nain Rouge,” Khaleghi said.

The movie follows a group of veterans who become local law enforcement officials. It stars Nathan Mathers, Eminem’s brother. We got an exclusive peek when they started filming back in 2017.

That’s when we learned the police chief of Lake Orion was also in the movie. Since it takes place in metro Detroit, there will be some familiar landmarks.

The movie was picked up by Cinedigm, one of the largest independent film studios.

Because of the shutdown, it’s skipping past theaters and going straight to streaming devices.

Khaleghi says is perfect for anyone looking to be entertained.

“There is romance, there’s adventure, it’s a crime thriller, there is horror elements, you’ve got creature feature thrills," he said. "Again it’s a perfect amalgam of all of those genres.”

The movie will be available June 23.
