The Rochester school district is shutting down schools for a few days this week. The district closed four of their elementary schools because the buildings are under construction.
The shutdown comes after an order from the state fire marshal.
Just days after the school year began, Rochester is shutting down the schools for two days this week.
That meant no school today for many Rochester elementary students. University Hills Elementary was closed today - and will be closed again tomorrow.
The superintendent and his staff are doing all they can to make sure University Hills, Hugger, Musson and Brewster are all up to code.
Superintendent Dr. Robert Shaner says the reason the lower elementary classes were still held on the first floor is because they didn't think they had to move them since the buildings pre-dated the regulations that stand today.
A visit from the state fire marshal last Thursday changed things and ever since they have been working to comply with all safety codes.
While classes at the four elementary schools are cancelled tomorrow too, parents can still drop their kids off the same time they usually do.
The superintendent says the schools will reopen on Thursday.
