LINCOLN PARK (WXYZ) — More than a dozen animals were rescued by first responders Sunday when a home in Lincoln Park caught fire.

The fire occurred April 7 at 7:15 a.m. on Farnham Street. Firefighters from the Ecorse Fire Department assisted the Lincoln Park Fire Department on the scene, where the single-story home was found engulfed in flames, according to a news release.

Inside the home were 17 dogs and one cat. The home's owner was able to escape, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Firefighters rescued 16 dogs and one cat from the home, and a 17th dog was found alive Monday as investigators continued to look into the cause the fire.

Sixteen of the dogs and the one cat were taken to various animal hospitals in the area, and the 17 dog that was discovered Monday was returned to the owner.
