A metro Detroit man is thanking Redford Township firefighters for rescuing his dog from a house fire Friday afternoon.

It happened at about 1 p.m. Friday on the 19000 block of Centralia Road, near Grand River Avenue and Beech Daly Road in Redford Township.

Patrick Norris said he was at work when his neighbor called to notify him about the blaze.

"She said, 'I saw that they got your dog,'" Norris said. "That's all I was worried about."

When he got to his home, first responders were taking care of his dog. Norris said he is grateful for the firefighters who found her huddled behind a furnace.

"They had her in a police car," he added. "But she was alive."

Norris said his dog is doing okay, but is breathing heavily.

He has established a GoFundMe page to raise money for a new home, and to get his dog treated. If you would like to donate, click here.
