RIVER ROUGE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Wayne County now has a recreational dispensary. It’s the first to open for the county and the second in the tri-county area.

People downriver or in the surrounding area don’t have to drive far to get their hands on recreational marijuana. It’s available here at 1st Quality Medz in River Rouge. The owner says being the first recreational dispensary in Wayne county is a positive sign moving forward.

"It’s very exciting to be number one in this," said Vetra Stephens, owner of 1st Quality Medz.

The wait is now over.

"It’s kind of ground breaking," said customer Mario Aguilar. "There’s never been a place like this or thought of like this before here."

The owner of 1st Quality Medz couldn’t be happier about the new opening.

"We wanted to just play it safe make sure we had enough product to service the people, so we did a soft opening and I think it’s worked out for us," Stephens said.

Previously, for recreational pot users in the downriver area, they’d have to drive to Ann Arbor to get marijuana, but now it’s available in their own backyard.

"It’s good because I actually work not too far from here, so when I leave work I’m able to just stop here and don’t have to go too far," said customer Ieshia Williams.

With more dispensaries expected to get the green light to sell recreational pot, the owner of 1st Quality Medz says it’s a good sign for business and the State of Michigan.

"We want to grow the city, we want to be able to be the ones to help with the taxes, the roads and the things like recreational marijuana does for cities like this and we hope that other people on the outside looking in will see that this is working," Stephens said.

She added that she strongly believes in natural medicine. If you have any questions about the products sold at 1st Quality Medz, go to their website www.firstQualityMeds.com.
