A fed up teacher called on 7 Action News for help.  She said she was being forced to teach in an elementary school that smelled like sewage with bathrooms out of order.

It is a problem that started when there was a sewage back-up more than a week ago. Since then, when her third graders at Marquette Elementary have to go to the bathroom, she has to walk them to another building.

7 Action News called the city to look into it.

City inspectors responded and found problems. They issued a citation to the district. Inspectors found the school didn't properly clean up after a sewage spill in the school.

Detroit Pubic Schools says tonight an environmental contractor is re-cleaning the affected areas. Tests have been done to monitor air quality, and so far they have found it suitable.

Teachers and parents say even if the air quality is not dangerous, it definitely stinks.

The city says inspectors will follow up to make sure the issue is properly addressed.
