Governor Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered in honor of faller Detroit Police officer Fadi Shukur.

On Monday, August 20, flags on all state buildings and within the state Capitol complex will be lowered to half-staff.

Officer Shukur succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, August 16 after being struck in a hit-and-run while on duty August 4.

A service for Officer Shukur will be held Monday, August 20 at 10 a.m. at the St. George Chaldean Catholic Church on 45700 Dequindre in Utica.

The newlywed officer was in the Navy for six years before joining the Detroit Police Department. He only served for a year and a half.

A viewing will take place August 18 at the Southfield Funeral Home from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Officials say flags should be returned to full staff on August 21.
