MACOMB COUNTY (WXYZ) — A major appointment is planned for Wednesday, to fill the position of Macomb County prosecutor after the resignation of Eric Smith.
Judge Carl Marlinga, who also served as prosecutor before taking the bench, says he’ll be among 15 judges choosing an applicant.
“We’re talking about very good people with a wealth of experience, and obviously many of them are not in the public eye.” Marlinga said.
A majority of eight judges will make the final call. Whomever is selected will serve through the end of the year, and a new prosecutor could be taking over on Jan. 1 after being elected.
The applicant list includes:
Dean Alan
Jean Cloud
Jurij Fedorak
Brian Jaye
David Portuesi
Steven Fox
Saima Khalil
Tom Rombach
“Most people who want to be prosecutors aren’t interested in politics," Marlinga said. "They’re interested in protecting the public, convicting the guilty and setting the innocent free.”
Wednesday’s meeting will be held at noon, and will allow for public participation. It will be held on zoom and streamed on YouTube.
